JeremyB - I was using it most of yesterday, it was late evening when it started to lose wifi intermittently.
This morning it was still intermittent so I turned the firewall off, but made no difference. What do you suggest?

Disable IPv6? This is going places I haven't been before
... I've found some ip6 in 'Network Settings' with a button to delete. Full list is...
local host
pedro-Inspiron
ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
ip6-localnet
ip6mcastprefix
ip6-allnodes
ip6-allrouters
Are you suggesting I delete one or more of these?

There are IPv6 setting in Network Manager for your wifi connection, just set to ignore or off

I haven't got a Network Manager, only 'Network' under Admin which shows the Hosts I listed in the last post,
then under Internet and Network there is 'Network Connections' and 'Network Proxy',
I've just noticed in 'Network Connections' if I click on a network I can then click on a gear icon taking me to 'Editing [wifi Id]'
If I do this after selecting my wifi id, there's a tab 'IPv6 Settings'. At the top this has 'Method': 'Automatic' which can be set to 'Ignore'.
I'll do this and see how it goes tomorrow. Thanks for persisting with this!

Still happening... any ideas where to go next, or whether to install W10 and try it? Thanks

Are there any updates available for the router?

You might also try

Code: Select all

cd /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA9377/hw1.0/
sudo mv firmware-6.bin firmware-6.bak
Reboot and see if the older firmware does better, if not then

Code: Select all

cd /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA9377/hw1.0/
sudo mv firmware-6.bak firmware-6.bin

Thanks, I couldn't see anyway of updating the router, it's a Virgin SuperHub and I think they may do the updating.
I've been using the laptop on and off today so here's hoping, will be busy next few days but will post again perhaps next week.

Re: intermittent wifi [SOLVED]

JeremyB - Wonderful! No losses of internet since changing to the older firmware last Friday, using the code you gave me from two posts back. Really grateful for you guys and this forum. I could have spent a lot of time getting nowhere on my own and disappointed not to be able to use MInt. So many thanks!!!

Now, an update just arrived on the Update Manager ... for firmware used by Linux kernel drivers - do I install this?!
I guess I could try it and if it doesn't work use the code you gave me to go back to the older again.
Any advice on this?

And I'm thinking I'll reverse some of the other changes
- IPv6 settings back to automatic
- I've already turned UFW back on
- hub security back to WPA Auto
- wifi power management I don't know how to turn back on and websites say it doesn't make much difference.
Your advice on doing any of the following would be appreciated.
