Unable to reconnect to wifi [SOLVED]

Post by Alejargueta » Mon Jul 01, 2019 11:26 am

My laptop got discharged and when i booted it up later the wireless option was no longer available. No kernel update was made and wifi was working correctly before. This is not the first time this has happened, in the past i couldn't fix the problem and ended up reinstalling mint, however, i cannot do this at this time. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

To install wifi in the first place i used these commands.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install dkms git build-essential
git clone -b extended https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
sudo dkms add ./rtlwifi_new
cd rtlwifi_new
make
sudo make install
Here are some codes that i saw were important.

Is there a wifi switch that needs to be turned on or a Fn & F key combo, airplane key maybe?

...try sudo modprobe -r rtl8723de && sudo -v modprobe rtl8723de, and if it doesn't come up,
post also results from sudo dkms status, for people to know what's going on there.

You probably have Secure Boot enabled in your BIOS/UEFI, and such is what prevents the module from loading.
It needs either to be signed (the module), or else, for Secure Boot to be disabled altogether.

For the first one, i'm not familiar with the exact procedure myself.
For the second one, that's very easy to change in your UEFI of course...
but if you dual-boot with Windows, i'm not sure if any complications arise.

But all in all, that appears to be the cause for grief above in the first place.

Apparently Secure Boot was enabled. Thanks for the advice, it's fixed now.
