wifi connectivity issues while on manual settings

I manually configured my wifi card to a static ip address, gateway, dns etc much like I would configure a wired connection
This sort of works, except each time I now reboot or wake the PC up from suspend I have no connectivity until I manually turn the wifi off and then back on from the network manager applet
When I'm set on Auto to use the dhcp server off my router things revert back to normal
Wondering if anyone else has experienced this behavior and has any resolution for it
running Mint 19.1 x64, details below:
