Can't turn internal WiFi back on

Post by AZgl1500 » Fri Jul 19, 2019 11:33 pm

my laptop has an internal WiFi adapter that won't stay connected...

I finally just so aggravated with it, that I turned if off, and was using a Panda PAU06 for wireless.

Well, I managed to destroy the Panda adapter physically, broke it half in two.

Now the laptop does not have WiFi available. I thought that I had made notes as to how to turn it back on, but can't find them.

the port is not blocked

Code: Select all

$ rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
here is what I have:

Code: Select all

$ inxi -Fzsd
System:    Host: john-TP500LA Kernel: 4.15.0-54-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: Cinnamon 3.6.7
           Distro: Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia

 Network: Card-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller driver: r8169
           IF: enp2s0f1 state: down mac: ac:9e:17:97:7b:df
           Card-2: MEDIATEK MT7630e 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter driver: mt7630e
           IF: wlp3s0f0 state: down mac: 10:08:b1:45:12:3b

I have the correct Security Code entered for the WiFi router, in Network Connections.

I rebooted the laptop, it shows the WiFi Router, but it will not connect to it.

I am using a Cat5 LAN at the moment.

All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....

See if 1.3 here helps:

Many thanks for this link, that is an encyclopedia of information.
I have not yet tried the info in the 2nd link posted.... it is 3 a.m. and I am getting tired.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to get it turned on again.

I have this:

Code: Select all

$ iwconfig
lo        no wireless extensions.

wlp3s0f0  IEEE 802.11  ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry short limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:off

enp2s0f1  no wireless extensions.

What I don't understand is why the WiFi channels are showing, but will not connect.

The keyboard shows an Airplane Symbol, but I don't know/think that it is recognized in Linux.
I used Fn+Airplane to no effect,
Control+Airplane to no effect
Alt+Airplane to no effect

When I click on HomeBase2 that identity totally disappears

Try this:

1. In the BIOS settings, disable Secure Boot (for that, you might need to set an administrator password in the BIOS first).

2. Establish temporary internet access by other means.

3. Then:

4. Reboot.
