Wifi quit working Mint 17.3 on HP Pavillion Laptop

Post by bluerose9062 » Sat Jul 27, 2019 8:55 pm

Wifi worked after install, and then quit the next day. I wiped the hard drive before installing, so there's no Secure Boot option in BIOS. I'm not very knowledgeable about drivers. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Here's my info:

First you should consider installing a newer version of Mint. Support for Mint 17.3 has ended.

I'm not sure which would be best for your system. Someone else may advise. But, you can try 19.1 in a live session without installing just to see how well it runs.

Hi, bluerose9062.

Irrespective of the Mint release, still supported or EOL already, if the wifi adapter has been hard blocked, then it will not work:

Code: Select all

oem@bmine ~ $ rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: yes
You may have switched off the wifi adapter by pushing some button or pressing some <Fn> keyboard combination, which is meant to switch off/on the wifi adapter at hardware level.
You may like to check so.

Regards,
Karl

[Solved] Re: Wifi quit working Mint 17.3 on HP Pavillion Laptop

Post by bluerose9062 » Sun Jul 28, 2019 3:45 pm

Thanks Sleeper12 and Karlchen. I had some difficulty with the install of 17, and probably did hit the wrong Fn key when trying to change the boot load in BIOS. I took Sleeper12's advice and installed 19.1. Wifi seems to be working fine now. The rfkill command shows nothing blocked any more. Thanks everyone.
