No Wireless connexion at home but OK on phone access point

Post by Beeglo » Fri Aug 23, 2019 4:38 am

Hello,

I'm totally new to linux and i've just installed linux mint 19.2 on my computer (ASUS N55SF).

My first question on this Forum is about wifi issues

Internet is working fine with cable connexion but when i try wireless :
- my computer is able to see the wifi networks
- it can connect on my phone access point
- but it is not able to connect on my home box (keeps asking me the access password)

I saw on internet the command to know my wifi car (Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030) and the kernel driver used (iwlwifi).

Who knows what i should do to fix that ?

Thanks a lot

Laurent

Check the settings of your WiFi network; it should have the following characteristics:
- WPA2 Personal
- AES only (no TKIP)
- SSID visible (not hidden)
- optimal wireless channel for your situation, preferably fixed (not automatic/dynamic)

Hello

I use a google WIFI access point and it seems to use WPA2 + PSK, not AES or TKIP. Could it be a problem ?
The SSID is visible as i can see the name of the network.
I can connect to this network the 2 others computer i have in my home (on windows 10)

PSK is fine. But the encoding is being done by either AES (modern and good connection) or TKIP (outdated and troublesome connection). It should be AES only (no backwards compatibility with TKIP).

i tried on the network of my neighbor which is on WPA2 / AES and it is working.
Google wifi is WPA / PSK and according to what they told me i have no access to modify the parameter.
Do you know if there could be a solution modifying something on the linux parameter (the wifi card worked well when it was on windows)

thanks
