Driver support for TP Link wifi Router booster TL-WN725N

Post by dbmatre » Thu Oct 17, 2019 11:11 am

Hello Guys,
I have TP link wifi router booster TL-WN725N( no version mentioned so it should be ONE) that I have used with my earlier windows laptop but now it has become useless as I don't see drivers for Linux mint 19.2 OS. I have checked with their customer support but they said they don't have drivers for Linux for this device.

I see few posts here on TP link routers but so wondering is there way out to make it work for my Linux mint laptop.

Thank you.

Linux mint 19.2, 64 bit, dell vostro i7 8 GB laptop

Hello dbmatre,

I've found two versions of your adapter with different drivers. Can you please show the terminal output of:

Code: Select all

lsusb
(with plugged-in adapter)

That should be supported in Mint 19 using the r8188eu kernel module. Is something wrong with the internal wifi?

Hello dbmatre,

as can be seen in your lsusb output you have the version 2 (ID 0bda:8179) of that usb adapter:

As written by JeremyB, there is the kernel module r8188eu, which support your device. If your wifi is working and you only want to speed up your device, try the following tips:

https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... s.html#ID2
(item 2, steps 2.1 and 2.2)

If that doesn't work, we can try another driver.
