Maybe power management is on? If so, turn it off:

It didnt work. The wi-fi network was completely broken when I tried this. It broke for all installed kernels on the system.
I followed steps in viewtopic.php?f=53&t=328556 to restore. Again I am back at intermittent wi-fi network.

Is there a kernel update available? Oh wait, you might lose the driver.

Edit: On second thought, if you installed the driver with dkms, it should be ok to take a kernel update if you have one.

I suppose you could also try:

Code: Select all

 sudo service network-manager restart

Just curious, any reason you're using the 5.7 kernel rather than the 5.4 that comes with Mint 20?

My CPU is Ryzen , a 2019 product. So newer kernel would be better no? I tried the latest 5.8.9 kernel too but the network didn't work OOTB.

Ok, I'm not sure what else to do. I know the Ryzen CPU can cause freezes, but not aware it has anything to do with wifi.

Did you have this problem with the 5.4 kernel?

Hard to say which kernel would be best. In this thread, the OP solved a similar problem with the 5.7.1 kernel:

I may have to uninstall the driver installed with dkms for the built in kernel drive to work. I don't know that.

A problem is, that you're using unofficial upstream kernels. As they don't come from the official software sources, they can behave unpredictably in your Linux Mint.

For removing Larry Finger's rtw88 driver, try this: launch Synaptic and use rtw88 as query.

Thank you. I installed the official 5.4 series kernel but the laptop does not boot with it. There is a blinking cursor at the left hand upper corner of the screen . May be because of the ryzen processor.5.8.9 kernel works well. I am using a w-fi usb dongel now . The network is fine now.
