Hard blocked. Try to unblock with the Fn key combination for it.

I tried to do it, the key was fn+f2 to turn on airplane mode in windows. i dont have any other physical switch. If i try to do fn+f2 it changes only the softblock. this is before i press fn+f2

Code: Select all

$ rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: yes
1: hci0: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
and this is after i press fn+f2

Code: Select all

~$ rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: yes
	Hard blocked: yes
1: hci0: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: yes
	Hard blocked: no
i dont know what to do now , any help will be appreciated and thanks for replying

ssn71,

Just playing a hunch here. What's the output of this command, if any:

Code: Select all

grep ralink /etc/modprobe.d/*
EDIT: Here's a better command instead:

Code: Select all

grep rt2800pci /etc/modprobe.d/*

Thanks for the reply. the command you provided did not do anything in the terminal. Right now i am unable to figure out a solution , will mostly end up buying a wireless adapter. :?

That particular wireless adapter is very problematic to get working with Linux.

See this thread:
viewtopic.php?t=315559

You may have some luck downgrading to LM19 with an older kernel.

Thanks for your reply. I already saw the thread you posted but i was not sure if i can install that kernel 4.15.0-91-generic in linux mint 20 . Update manager only shows kernel from 5.4. If it is possible, could you say a method to install the kernel.I am very new to linux so dont know much. Any help will be appreciated thanks.

Well I tried it, added with terminal :

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cappelikan/ppa
sudo apt update
sudo apt install mainline
Then I had read the 4.15 kernel had results

4.15.1-041501-generic

was installed

Sorry to state that did not resolve my wifi disabled issue, but it was fun trying, I don't give up, there is a way.
Before I started these modifications I created a snapshot with with timeshift, convenient.

Try this before anything else

Code: Select all

echo "options asus-nb-wmi wapf=4" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/asus-nb-wmi.conf
Reboot, check rfkill list and see if anything is hard blocked, if it is try the FN combo again to see if it gets unblocked

Thanks for the reply. I tried the command and rebooted, still it only shows hard blocked. The Fn+F2 key still only toggles soft block on and off.

Try

Code: Select all

echo "blacklist asus_wireless" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/asus_wireless.conf
Reboot

Thanks for your reply, i tried this command and rebooted, still it says hard blocked and the fn+f2 key only toggles soft block on and off. Excuse me for my ignorance, how do i have to run the command you posted? do i have to copy paste the whole command in terminal or split it into two parts like first entering command [echo "blacklist asus wireless"] and then entering the next line of command. If i try entering the command this way and when i close the terminal, it shows "there is still a process running in the terminal". To be clear i tried both ways i mentioned and rebooted. still it remains the same. once again thanks.

When you see code like that, just click on SELECT ALL and that will highlight the text, then you can right click on the highlighted text and select Copy, then paste that exactly into the terminal. The "pipe" (|) joins the two commands into one, so instead of simply echoing blacklist asus_wireless, it will also send that to the next command, which is writing it to the file specified.

hi, is there anything else i can try to get my wifi adapter working. I tried following many posts found by googling and still unable to find a way. recently i am getting an error on boot saying

libkmod: ERROR ../libkmod/libkmod-config.c:656 kmod_config_parse /etc/modprobe.d/asus-nb-wmi.conf line 1: ignoring bad line starting with 'echo'
libkmod: ERROR ../libkmod/libkmod-config.c:656 kmod_config_parse /etc/modprobe.d/asus-nb-wmi.conf line 1: ignoring bad line starting with 'echo'

and then it boots into system normally. how to get rid of this error, thanks in advance.
