[SOLVED]Wifi disconnecting followed by high CPU usage

Post by kindoflew »

Updated the kernel two days ago and now after a short time of browsing the web my wifi will disconnect and CPU usage by wpa_supplicant becomes extremely high. Rebooting is the only thing to stop it. It will then happen again after random amounts of time online.
I have a Realtek RTL8723DE and it says my driver is rtw_pci.

Saved part of my logs from the last time it happened:

Code: Select all

It seems like it's probably an issue with the rtw_pci driver? I'm probably going to end up either buying a new card or a wireless dongle. Thought I'd post here before in case there is something obvious to fix. Thanks!

rtw88 came installed with this version of mint. Is that not the same one from the larry finger repo?

Ok, just wanted to be sure it wasn't still the rtw_pci.

thanks again! one more question though, if you have time. it said on EasyLinuxTips that i have to do this every time i update my kernel. is there a way to make this permanent?

I may be wrong, but I think that only applies to the rtw88 driver there.
