[SOLVED] TP-Link AC600 Archer T2U Nano setup issue

Post by Sugarcrisp »

Hey everyone,

I'm having issues get the TP-Link AC600 install on my system. I've followed a couple of different threads, but for some reason it's not working. The installation is simple enough, but I get an error at the final step

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe 88XXau
I get error

Code: Select all

modprobe: FATAL: Module 88XXau not found in directory /lib/modules/5.8.0-29-generic
Below I will include what has been previously asked to help troubleshoot.

I found the issue. I was using a different git download

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/jeremyb31/rtl8812au-1.git
This one doesn't seem to work. I switched to

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8812au.git
and ran the following

Code: Select all

cd ~/rtl8812au
sudo make dkms_install
It worked like a charm

I thought everything was solved, but it appears that I only have 2.4G working. Does anyone know how to get the 5G working also?

I run the same wifi drivers as your last source, it works fine on 2.4ghz and 5ghz on a usb TP-Link Archer T9UH AC1900. Even though it uses the RTL8814au chip, the drivers for RTL8812au works just fine. I'm not sure what you can do.

On a clean install:
(I use my phone to connect to the home wifi till I can DL and install my adaptor driver)

sudo apt install git build-essential dkms
git clone https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8812au.git
cd rtl8812au
sudo ./dkms-install.sh

Hey Cobrin,

I have it install and working, but it's not giving me the option of 5GHZ. I have 5G enabled on my router and I'm connected to it with my Iphone and a second computer. Not sure what I'm missing.

I noticed that you may not have full resolution to your problem yet...

Your device appears to be based on a Realtek 8811au chipset. I maintain several usb wifi drivers on my github site:

https://github.com/morrownr

I should have the 8821au driver up and available within the next 1-2 weeks. That driver will support your 8811au chipset. Feel free to bookmark the site and keep an eye out for the driver.

Hey everyone,

I finally got the 5GHZ wifi signal to show up. I came across an article https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/tp-l ... ifi.96054/ referring to the same issue on a Hachintosh. In the article, they refer to the router selecting too high of a channel and suggested setting it manually to channel 36. When I did this on my router, I got a warning that all channels below 149 are newly created for China. I set it and the 5GHZ wifi signal showed up immediately. As of this writing, I've only been connected for about 5 minutes so we will see if I experience any issues. But, for now it is working. Hopefully this will be helpful to others.

Hi I've run through the 1-2-3 for the 8814au & 8821au ... but am not seeing a wireless network ?

secure boot=off
5Ghz = 36 (already ... not change).

the device is a XVZ 600 dual band ( https://is.gd/RMHSi0 )
- linux is supported

the device shows : inxi -Fxxxrz
Network: Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet vendor: ASRock driver: r8169 v: kernel
port: e000 bus ID: 05:00.0 chip ID: 10ec:8168
IF: enp5s0 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter>
Device-2: Realtek 802.11ac NIC type: USB driver: usb-network bus ID: 1-10:10 chip ID: 0bda:c811
serial: <filter>

however : iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
enp5s0 no wireless extensions.

I'm running LM20.0 64bit AMD Ryzen 5, Kernel 5.8.0-33

any help appreciated ...

Hey ajc,

Where did you download the file from? I came across some files that didn't work either (I believe they were older versions). I'm currently using the link that morrownr provided and the information from the Hackintosh link that I provided and it's working perfectly with 2.4G and 5G. Before installing a new version of the 8812au file, make sure to completely remove the old so you know that you are starting fresh to avoid any conflicts or confusion.

Hey Sugarcrisp

downloaded the files from morrownr's link ...

=> used the 1-2-3 further down the page in the link ...
... haven't had a look at your Hackintosh link => will do that now and get back to you.

had a quick check, and if I'm reading this correctly, it's about settings the 5GHz channel to 36.
... mine is already on 36.

so unfortunately that's not the issue :(
... ah well, hopefully someone else will see this. Cheers !

Yes but what files did you get? Your device ID posted earlier indicates that your adapter has a 8811cu chipset. Don't use the driver for 8811au. It won't work. It will install but it won't work.

Take a look at this site: https://github.com/morrownr

You will see 5 drivers supporting 9 Realtek USB WiFi chipsets that are all on the market right now. I realize this is confusing... which is why I started this driver site. Hopefully it helps.

Hi morrownr

I've moved the dongle over to a slightly new laptop, to pick up the faster wireless speeds
- running LM 20.1 Cinnamon 64bit.

in terminal, when running the cmd : sudo ./install-driver.sh
=> i get the msg : the driver may already be installed. you will ned to run the following before installing. sudo ./remove-driver.sh

when I run the remove-driver.sh, I get : Error! there are no instances of module: rtl8821au 5.8.2.3 located in the DKMS tree.
an error occurred while running: dkms remove : 3
pls report errors.

would appreciate your help, am going in circles on this ... :(

Thx. Ajc

Thanks you so much. This code worked on an ASUS Zenbook running Cinnamon 20.2.
I had to set up a MOK to be validated on reboot, since it was a new Mint installation.
