Extremaly slow wifi

Post by mstraczkowski »

Hi there,

My wifi connection on linux mint is extremaly slow and I have no idea what is going on but I really need some help because it's impossible to work on linux at this moment. I also have Windows 10 installed and wifi is working there like a charm.

Maybe its some kind of driver issues? I don't know...

I've tested my connection on speedtest.net and results were like:

0,5 Mbps download on Linux Mint
75 Mbps download on Windows 10

Upload was quite similar on both OS

inxi -Fzx

Welcome to the forums.

Best to check this page out. Let us know if it works for you although I couldn't see 8192CU on there.

Also best to check out the rest of that site if you haven't already as that is the 'goto' site.

Try blacklisting the rtl8192cu driver, thus forcing your WiFi chipset to run on the (possibly) better rtl8xxxu driver:

Code: Select all

echo "blacklist rtl8192cu" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Reboot and test.

If that doesn't work, try one line at a time:

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/HashBreakerPC/rtl8192cu-fixes-script.git
cd rtl8192cu-fixes-script/
sudo chmod +x rtl8192cu-fix-script.sh
./rtl8192cu-fix-script.sh
Reboot

Code: Select all

echo "blacklist rtl8192cu" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
