It didn't clear the wifi hardware switch.
Open a Terminal (Ctrl-Alt-T), then copy-and-paste the following two commands...
Code: Select all
sudo rfkill unblock all
systemctl restart network-manager.service
Reboot for good measure.

Those are two different commands right? I should enter the first one, hit enter, then enter the second and hit enter?

Correct. One at a time.

It didn't work. I think I'm going to look at a different distro. Thank you to all for your time.

I tried that but it didn't work. Is there any way I can update my BIOS?

If you can find one for your HP model. Someone on an HP support forum might be able to assist with that.
If you're thinking of other distros, give
Manjaro a look-see.

Thank you, I will try it, I already tried Ubuntu and it runs into the same problem with the wifi. I think I'm going to have to buy one of those wifi dongles, any recommendations?

I have the
Osgear UW150BT 2-in-1, a USB-2 dongle with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It has Realtek's RTL8723BU chipset, and is fully functional with Mint right out of the package. It's only 802.11N (WiFi 4) though, not dual band.
I've seen it sold at Amazon in the
UK , the
US , and
Canada .
