Mint 19.01 keeps dropping wifi

Post by saiprem »

Hello helpers and boy do I need help. This has been bugging me for a long time.
My laptop wifi card wore out some time back so now I use a USB wifi dongle (Realtek 802.11ac NIC). I has the correct driver.
When is working as good as it gets my network manager is showing all available wifi networks in addition to the one I am connected to. But at totally random times it stops showing all the networks it is not connected to and the speed of the network it is connected to drops about 75%.
I have searched the forum and other additional resources to find a solution but nothing. I have disabled network power saver, blacklisted Sunrise point, disabled IPv6 and nothing works. This is what I'm talking about:

Can anybody tell me what to do?

Can you remove the internal wifi card? Just a guess, but maybe it's interfering.

Funny about that, when I first blacklisted the internal wifi card and restarted the computer it didn't show anymore. Then it showed up again even though it's still blacklisted. I haven't opened up the computer because I didn't want to void the warranty, but it might work if I try that.

Any other suggestions?

Well, I don't want you to void your warranty, so maybe someone else will have an idea.

Are you dual booting with Windows?

Rarely, but dual booting is possible. I could see if there is a similar problem in Windows. Then I would know if it is a hardware problem.

You might need to disable fast boot or fast startup.
