Mint on MacBook 2006, No Wifi with built-in, but Wifi with USB dongle

Post by cjsebes »

Greetings, all! Bit of a greenhorn with Linux but know enough to be dangerous.

I'm giving a friend my old 2006 MacBook. I've installed Mint 20.1 64-bit and it seems to work well.

I'm able to connect over Ethernet to make updates and get online. However, I can't connect wirelessly using the built-in wifi adapter (Broadcom and Subsidiaries BCM4321). I can see the network SSID and select it. It repeatedly asks for authentication and won't connect.

However, if I plug in a little USB wifi adapter (RTL8188ETV), I can get online just fine. It's what I'm using on the machine right now.

I would like to use the built-in network adapter. What can I look into to?
Much appreciated.

Here's the meat of the configuration...

Try:

Code: Select all

sudo apt remove bcmwl-kernel-source && sudo apt install firmware-b43-installer
Reboot

Thanks very much! Worked like a charm. I'm back online with the built-in wifi adapter. I greatly appreciate the help!
