Now I'm setting up my daughter's computer. I can't install Synaptic! It's grayed out, and won't respond to my click. How can I install "bcm43xx-fwcutter" and "wlassistant" without it?

total noob here. sorry for that extra headache, but i don't have a cd with the drivers, and when i download them they give me an .exe (who the hell uses .exes?)

Sorry to be a bother, maybe someone could e-mail it to me or something.

from clem a page back
quote clem:

PS: If the driver comes as an EXE, you can use "unzip" to decompress it and extract the INF and SYS files from it.

end quote.

Is it possible to use this method and leave wlassistant out? I'd like to use NetworkManager to control wireless networks.

OK i just found the simplest ******* solution to this whole BCM43xx problem!

At least this worked for me on my Compaq Presario V5000 with BCM4311 wireless card. No guarantee that it will work on all other systems but it's worth a try!

No script fiddling or work arounds.

Simply go to MENU

type "hard" until Hardware Drivers come up,,,, click that!

Let it search and activate the driver called STA.... reboot/

Wireless works!

here's the link where i found the solution :D
