Need help urgent..Linux Mint 9 RC

Post by qwerty123321 »

I recently installed linux mint 9RC after using ubuntu 10.04..but for some reason both linux mint 9 RC and ubuntu 10.04 dont seems to like my wireless card and they just dont show all the available wireless networks available..but I fixed that in ubuntu 10.04 by applying a kernal update but now that i've switched over to Linux Mint 9RC the problem is still there after all the updats :/ So can someone please help me out with this?? I really need to get my wireless working..

I am having a similar problem. Checked pclinuxos and they had added realtek driver 8192re and it picked up my wireless, could that be the issue. How can I load this driver in Mint9. I really want to use the new Mint when it is ready. Thanks

Go to update manager in your tray, and go to edit>preferences. Set level 4 and 5 updates to visible and refresh. The kernel updates should now be available. Mint hides those updates by default since they can cause instability, although I've never had problems with them. If you have a proprietary Nvidia or ATI driver installed, uninstall it first then reinstall once the kernel update is done. Otherwise graphics could be a little strange on the new kernel. This is because those drivers do not work very well with a kernel changing underneath their feet. Although if you had no issues in ubuntu, you should have no troubles in Mint.

Edit: if that doesn't work you can try installing the windows drivers using the Windows Wireless Drivers tool in Menu>Administration.

And please bear in mind we're not 24 hour support specialist here, just normal people coming on here in our spare time. :)

Although if my solution works, I'm surprised nobody told you earlier.
Linux Mint 8 RC1 = Nice
'apt install' can be used on Linux Mint as a shortcut for 'sudo apt-get install'. 'apt x' can be used for various other apt commands as well.
When a problem is solved, please add [SOLVED] to your thread title.
