[SOLVED] Firmware Missing:Broadcom BCM4318 AirForce One 54g

Post by bracca » Wed Mar 07, 2012 10:56 pm

Hi,

I was so excited to get b43 to work on a laptop with the help of users on this forum. Thank you.

I like Linux Mint so much, I am putting it on a Dell Dimension 8400. I have installed an Asus PCI Wifi card that worked fine in Windows. Please tell me how to get it to work. Below are a couple of commands ouputs:

Thank you,
Bracca

By the way "Additional Drivers" didn't find anything: "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system."

Putting bcm4318 in the Search box top right is recommended, it brings up links such as http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 18#p525259

I finally got my BCM4318 working, and this is how I did it.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
wget http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2
tar xf broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2
cd broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver
sudo b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta_mimo.o
modprobe b43
Also edit the etc/modules file and add b43 to make sure the module gets loaded at boot.

Restart the computer.

I did the code line by line.
I had tried just using other suggestion of doing the "sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer"
which didn't work for me on fresh install 17.2.
May I add for the newest that copying a line from a browser is done with the usual ctrl key + c key after highlighting the text.
Pasting in the terminal is done with ctrl key + shift key + v key.
And since i'm here : copying from a terminal window is done by highlighting the text and doing ctrl key + shift key + c key.
Then you can paste anywhere (but a terminal window but then ---- now you know how to paste in a terminal window)
by using ctrl key + v key.

I tried doing the last line mode probe but it did not run until i added sudo in front of the code and it just never seemed to complete.

To edit the module file use sudo gedit in a terminal window to start gedit with root privileges and then open ect/modules file and add a "b43" below
"lp" and save.

when I restarted my wifi light on my laptop came on for the first time and just had to go into network to connect to my
home network and i could also finally see all the other wifi networks in my area.

Thank you so much for this different insight.
