Can anyone please help. I lost my network and update applets on my panel.
Searched the internet and can't find a solution. I think I might have accidentally removed them from the panel myself, but am not sure. They weren't visible, just a small vertical line that I never saw before. I thought it was a separator and removed it from the panel. Then I noticed that the wifi selection applet was missing and felt really stupid. Later on I noticed that the update applet wasn't there any more either.
As I said, I googled the problem and found that it's supposed to be part of the notification area applet. But when I add the notification area I just get a second one. It only gives me info on the volume and what keyboard layout I'm using.
Can anyone help me get it back? My wireless is working fine but I need that applet back because this is not my laptop and the owner needs to connect to their own wireless when they get it back.
edit - sorry, I'm using Linux Mint 10 julia.

Re: Network and update applets gone from panel
Right-click the panel -> Add to panel. Try the Notification Area.
Re: Network and update applets gone from panel
That's what I said in my post, Notification Area doesn't work. It just adds another notification area without the missing applets. But thanks for replying vso quick. I'm starting to love this community as much as I'm starting to love Linux Mint. (I'm new to both.)
But in between posting and thinking about it some more, I remembered that I read somewhere about restoring the default panel. So I searched the forum for that and found this:
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=43509&p=345713&hilit=restore+panel+to+deFAULT#p345713
I filled in the first command that was mentioned in the second to last post. This to be precise:
Then my panel was back to default. Just need to add it to the top again and add my usual applets back.
One more question. There are two more commands mentioned in that post. But for me the problem was solved after the first. What are they for and do I need to do them or should I just leave it at this since it seems to be fixed?
Thanks.

Re: Network and update applets gone from panel
Hi!
Sometimes you have a problem with the gnome-panel which can be solved by terminal ->
when an error message is shown like
answer yes; then you can "add to panel".

I have also tried adding the notification area again as mentioned above but only get a second sound applet, so I didnt delete the area by mistake...........is this a known bug for Mint 10? or is it too early days for this to be known?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as apart from this, my Mint 10 32 bit Gnome system is running perfectly.
I am with the exact same problem
Re: Network and update applets gone from panel
I am quite new to Linux, so this probably wont be of much help, but --
I don't like a lot of extra stuff on my panel, and decided I didn't want the network icon there, but wanted to keep the update icon. (Mine still works properly in Mint 10). I found that if I opened "Startup Applications Preferences" (Menu>Preferences>Startup Applications) and unchecked network manager that it would not load the icon on the panel.
Perhaps both of your items that do not show up got somehow unselected?
Might be a good idea to open the Startup Applications and just check to see if they are checked?

I have the same issue, but it is not longer in my startup applications. Could someone tell me what is the command to add it to the startup applications?
thanks
