Nice white pointer on a black screen.

Just bothered to download and install Mint 14 KDE. All went well until I actually logged into my account. After submitting my username and password, I am taken to a black screen with a white pointer. No more, no less. CTRL-Alt-Backspace returns me to the login screen. Very nice.

You could try adding nomodeset to the boot argument
Once in to kde disable desktop effects and try booting normally
Or login at the prompt and try pressing
Alt +SHIFT+F12

Yeah, that worked! Thanks. I don't know why it's required yet but it did get me "in". I just finished burning a DVD w/ K3B and logged on here while that was happening to post this reply. Thanks!
