Cannot Connect to Wireless Router

Fresh install of 17.1 kde.
My router is seen but after putting in my password & trying to connect, I just keep getting a box coming up asking again & again for my Router password, I enter it but after about 20 seconds it asks again.
No such problems in Ubuntu & Kubuntu 14.04.
Any ideas please?

it may helpful if you give us a little more info. What wireless card is being used?

Sorry.
The wireless card is ralink RT3090.
This has no problem connecting wirelessly in any other distro. Not even Mint Cinnamon 17.
I'm not sure if it has something to do with kwallet, whatever, after initially picking my network to connect to & entering my wireless password, the icon just spins, then a box opens on the desktop asking me to enter my password again. This goes on indefinitely. I have even put my user password in instead, but nothing seems to work. I am going to look into this futher now.

could you go to a terminal and type the following command and list the result here:

Sorry this is difficult logging in and out of different systems to get on line.
When I run iwlist scan, I get:

eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
wlan0 no scan results.

The irony is, that when I run from a live disc it connects no problem.
I have even done a re install but still no joy.

Just to add a little bit more info.
After I have clicked the networe icon, chosen my network and entered the wireless password, a box comes up.
KDE Daemon. For accessing the wireless network NETGEAR you need to provide a password below.
But what password does it want? I have tried my wire less password and my user password. Nothing works.

It would be the password that you programmed or came with your router.
It almost sound like the type of encryption is set wrong. Left click on the network Icon in the panel and on your user name , when you mouse over that connection you should see a little wrench icon right next to the disconnect tab. click on it the go to wireless security and it should be set on WPA & WPA2 Personal.

Make sure it is. if it was not set it to that and log out and back in again. you may also want to see if IPV4 and IPV6 are set to automatic.

The very last post (54) on http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2745 that announces the RC release has a comment by Clem regarding KWallet & wireless. I don't fully understand it, maybe because I don't use KWallet. But it may help you.

Hi lindseyd, thanks for your reply.
I have already checked those links, I don't really understand clems reply either.
I have messed with k wallet to no avail, even disabling it.
To be honest I am not the most patient person so I downloaded and installed kubuntu 14.10.
It installed, connected, and ran flawlessly, so i'm staying put with that for the time being.

Just wanted to report that this is still an issue in Linux Mint KDE 18.2 64 bit ("Sonya") released JULY 2, 2017.

Can't connect to any Wi-Fi network because the dialog "for accessing the wireless network [...] you need to provide a password below" keeps popping up in a loop whether the KDE wallet subsystem is enabled or not.
My laptop: HP Pavilion Power 15-cb014ng

As much as it pains me to say because I love Mint, switching to Kubuntu now... Internet connectivity *is* kinda essential.

Update: found a workaround for Linux Mint KDE 18.1:-)

The trick was to disable the KDE wallet subsystem BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE. Really, before attempting to connect to a network for the first time:

1. Disable KDE Wallet subsystem
2. Provide the Wi-Fi password to the Network Manager, connect your Wi-Fi network.

After that, connecting worked like a charm, even subsequent connects did not require re-entering the Wi-Fi password.

I'm really glad you got this sorted, on behalf of all KDE users. Where KDE works, it's brilliant. But sometimes they make decisions for users without thinking it through.

Hey Lindsey, unfortunately, I cannot mark the first post as solved as I am not the original poster, just another unlucky soul with this problem.
So I just marked my response containing the workaround as "[SOLVED]"...

It should be noted that this is not a real solution since not being able to fix this problem on anything else than a fresh install could still be an inconvenience for some...

Sorry, qwertz, I didn't realize you weren't the OP. But the topic's still findable with a SOLVED, so that's good.

I agree the solution isn't ideal, but you've identified the culprit, which is a huge step. And if you put / (root) on a separate partition, it's only about 15 minutes to reinstall. So you've forewarned some folks and provided some help to others. Pat yourself on the back.
