automatic root login for kde in mint18 (backup system)

Post by frisil » Tue Jan 03, 2017 10:45 am

Hi,
how do I get Mint 18 to automatically log into kde as root on startup? ssdm does not seem to allow it, nor does mdm. For good reasons, yes, I know. But I know what I'm doing: I'm setting up a second linux as backup system, which I can run from rEFInd, it's not for working and does not have any network connection, I just want it to log into kde as root and run some scripts to make an automatic partition backup of my main Linux install onto my data partition and then automatically shut down again. A one-click system backup solution before I go to bed, very handy. But I want to be in kde so I can make some changes manually for testing purposes. I have done this before with an older mint version running kdm but it does not seem to be available anymore.

How do I get ssdm to do this? or mdm? or should I use a different login manager? Thanks for any help in advance.
