[Solved] Tooltip not visible

Post by Alex_L »

Hello

On several programs (Pidgin) in my session, I cannot read the tooltips: A tooltip-window appears, but no text inside. I guess that the text is written in white as the box does and therefore is not visible.

It appears to be a kde bug, "Tooltips color wrong in gtk applications". Inkscape's popups are "empty" for me. I was look'n at changing the tooltip text color under Color -> Edit Scheme, but ended up commenting 2 lines in gtkrc-2.0: widget "gtk-tooltip" style "tooltips".

Also, under Settings -> Color, there is a checkbox, "Apply colors to non-Qt applications", unchecking that also works (at least for inkscape). It took me a while to find that option. It didn't appear in a Settings Search and I kept going to Application Style -> Gnome Application Style". Oh well...finally found it :-)

I've also been noticing some unusual behavior in applications running under the 64 bit KDE desktop of Linux Mint 18.2.
In some applications if a file is opened by double clicking from Dolphin then tooltips will appear blank.
If on the other hand the file is opened from within the application then tooltips appear as they should.
As suggested System Settings -> Color -> deselecting "Apply colors to non-Qt applications" fixed it.

Thanks for the suggestion.
