Re: brightness
Hi "desperados",
It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.
A lot depends on your computer hardware and which version of KDE you are using. Is this a laptop, or a desktop, or tablet, etc...?
There might be options in the System Settings (power management), and there are usually packages in the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) for laptops, and a lot of laptops have keyboards options to adjust screen brightness.
If you regular click and or right click the System Tray on the right side of your system tray panel, click system tray settings, there is usually a "battery and brightness" control plasma widget.
Hope this helps ...

Re: brightness
You can set the brightness (as opposed to gamma) using xrandr.
Simply create a new menu item with the following command:
System settings will tell you what your monitor is called for "output".
You can make as many different entries as you need. I have one set to 0.2, which lets me just see the screen, and negates the need for a screensaver.
Simply create a new menu item with the following command:
Code: Select all
xrandr --output VGA1 --brightness 0.95

Hi "desperados",
When I click add widgets, then "Get New Widgets", then click "Download New Widgets", search for "bright", I get "XrendrMixer" which can be added to your system panel or desktop(s), select "XrendrMixer-v1.3.zip".
XrendrMixer - Plasmoid to control screen brightness and gamma for Plasma 5.

Re: brightness
Hi "desperados",
FYI: Although I do not have a problem with my screen's brightness or gamma settings, I just installed the XrendrMixer plasma widget which does work.
In my System Settings, Display and Monitor options, my system is connected using the (VGA1) which is what I put in the settings of this widget without the parenthesis. You right click the widget to enter in the value, click apply, ok.
Caution: When you right click the widget's icon you have settings for Brightness and Gamma which default to 0.01 for each one. I tried changing these to 0.02, etc... clicking apply, ok, but nothing seemed to happen. So, I changed it to 0.07, clicked apply, and ok, still nothing. Then I regular clicked the widget's icon which activated the settings and my monitor went dark, I could no longer read it. I had to reboot into "recovery mode" to change the settings of this widget to get my monitor's brightness to be visible again, it had a default very low brightness value on the regular click options which I did not put in. When you regular click the widget, you also have brightness and gamma settings which are the ones that do work whereas the right click settings option does not seem to work on my system.
I have no idea what values are supposed to be in these. What I noticed is that a brightness value of 1.00 seemed too bright for the brightness on my system, but 0.80 seems good on my system, and the lower the value, the darker your monitor screen becomes, the higher the value, the brighter your monitor screen becomes.
Hope this helps ...
