Anyone else noticed this bug, KDE 18.2?

Hi, I found what could be a bug - anyone else notice it?

With desktop in folder view, I copy a file from another folder to the desktop. I used fff.mp3 for the example.

I open fff.mp3 in vlc to play it.

I close vlc then rename fff.mp3 to abc.mp3.

I double click abc.mp3 to open it and get the error:

Unable to run the command specified. The file or folder /home/alex/Desktop//fff.mp3 does not exist.

This has happened several times - it's like KDE is trying to find the old file and not use the new filename.

Anyone else / suggestions?

I have had the same thing on several occasions, however I don't think it's a bug per se.

I found that waiting a minute or two after renaming that I could open the renamed file or folder just fine, perhaps something in dolphin (in my case, or whatever app was default to opening said file type)
needed time to refresh the name change in my noob opinion.

But I'm open to having any of the experienced people here tell us otherwise.

Update:

I rechecked this on my 18.2, took a "blank.odt" LO file and right clicked, renamed, and then tried to open by clicking, errored from Plasma as you got.

It wasn't until I right clicked and opened its properties dialog box, then closed without changing anything, that I could then double click and have LO open it ...

Actually having to wait 1 or 2 minutes for a file rename to actually take effect does kind of sound like a bug to me.

Maybe try turning off Akonadi file indexing in startup applications? The KDE file search indexing may seem like it makes things faster at first but eventually it becomes a real drag on the system. It's been a while since I had KDE installed ... maybe others have better ideas.

Did you mean baloo? Neither are startup applications in Mint 18.2 KDE.

It's definately a bug - the file properties hack from RW-One works nicely, but it's a workaround.

Turning off Baloo, Akonadi had no effect...

It is a duplicate and due for a fix in V5.37 - no idea how this translates to Mint!

If you really must have it working, the risk is you won't have a working system if you break an upgrade. You would have to enable the Kubuntu Backports PPA. For example: https://www.tecmint.com/install-kde-plasma-5-in-linux/, and https://connectwww.com/how-to-install-k ... mint/5443/

If your machine is powerful enough, you might want to run up a virtual machine and try the upgrade process there. Also, the fix is in 5.37.0 Frameworks, which isn't in Backports yet; it's in the Kubuntu Backports Landing PPA, which is a test PPA. In any case, patience is a virtue

lol - not 20 minutes later, update manager pops up and tells me kio - 5.36.0-0ubuntu1.1~ubuntu16.04~ppa1 is available.

No needs, as the backports PPA is already enabled by default in Mint 18.x KDE.

I should also mention that contrary to what was said earlier, frameworks 5.37 for Xenial (what Mint is based on) is NOT in the backports or backports-landing PPA. Currently - cherry picking bugfixes aside - it's not buildable against the Qt version in kubuntu backports.
