blurry screen linux mint 18.1

Hi,
my PC is equipped with linux mint 18.1, video card nvidia gs 8400; driver used nvidia 340, the recommended
one by the system.

This configuration worked well for about one year;
now it's about 3/4 days that the characters are not well defined, blurry screen in general is visible.
This is visible on any application and also in the internet browser; also present
just now when I'm writing this post and it is very annoying, because characters
are not clear and not well defined as before; everything is smoky.
I tried change resolution, change nvidia driver, change characters font, but nothing worked.
I tried also to launch from CD linux mint 18.2 and the same Blurry screen got; so I'm afraid that
reinstalling operating system is not a solution.

What can I do ? Could it be problem with video card? How can i check it?

Is this a flat-panel monitor connected by VGA (or possibly DVI)? Could be the display calibration has been lost - usually fixed via the monitor's controls - or even a dodgy connection. If the calibration is off this will cause blurred text.

really many thanks;
I just changed the monitor scene from standard to theater and problem fixed!!!!!
I just noticed that character definition depends from the scene set ;
it is an ASUS monitor and provides differenet scene modes.
