[SOLVED] Error message "/home/sarge/.config/kded5rc" not writable. error at startup

Postby Sgthawker » Sat Nov 18, 2017 9:55 pm

I find this error message each time I boot with no sign of adverse effects that I am aware of.

If there are no other adverse effects then it's probably just that one file that changed owner/mode.

What does ls -lh /home/sarge/.config/kded5rc return

sudo chown $USER:$USER /home/sarge/.config/kded5rc should do it.

That worked! Thank you. :D

You mentioned that file changed owner/mode, is this a common issue? I have not had something similar that I am aware of, but in my old Windows days I used to reinstall XP annually due to registry bloat and such.

To be honest I have no idea how the owner/group changed for that particular file :?

I'm using the Mate desktop version here, but I know when errors like that pop up it's usually a permission problem.

No need for such drastic measures here :D
