Apparently using Remmina creates a new entry each time. Not sure how to prevent it.
Just noticed it, so I have yet to reboot & see if that resets it. Probably won't remember to check next time I reboot, since it doesn't happen too often.

You might try TeamViewer. It's free for personal use. You'll probably need to install it on both machines. It's also advisable to create a free account during the setup to save time when connecting.

Not quite the kind of solution I was hoping for. Even if it was exclusively for personal use (it is not), I wouldn't want it resolved that way.
I guess if I should have sufficient time one day I'll tinker with whatever other rdp clients are available to see if I can find another. In which case I imagine I'll have to find & nuke wherever the system tray applet keeps its config to remove all the zombie remmina entries.
Re: Dozens of duplicated entries in System Tray Settings
So... I have yet to spend the time looking for a Remmina replacement. Just checking back here if anyone might have had to repair any kind of app getting duplicated in their System Tray settings like it is here on mine.
Sometimes I've posted on the KDE forums, which will likely be a next step if no one here has any ideas. Usually there's less replies there so not much hope..
EDIT:
Have officially given up on resolving this. Am now just using VirtualBox's 'Detach' & 'Show' buttons on the VM's local display.
