LM 18.3 KDE: crash at login

Hello,

I performed a fresh installation of LM 18.3 KDE and all available updates, not an upgrade from an earlier version. But my $HOME. which is on a different partition, is the same as in previous versions. Before my first login I renamed $HOME/.kde to $HOME/.kde4.old and created a new mkdir $HOME/.kde.

Still, after login, I get a crash report, see below. I've tried to make sense of it, but my knowledge of this is too small. I'd be very thankful if anyone could tell me what causes this crash and how to fix it.

Did you manage to sort this? How did you perform the home directory renaming etc. i.e. via the Live USB? I'd suggest renaming the old home directory before performing the reinstallation.

Had a look through your log and am a bit concerned about the segmentation fault & KDE4 references; I expect the installation process already incorporated the original /home & then you moved it ..

I am sorry I have to tell you, but I solved this issue by not using LM any more. :(

I changed to KDE Neon, because LM are dropping their KDE version.

That's OK, thanks for the reply. I too have migrated one of my machines for various reasons; mainly wanting a KDE environment and also not having the periodic upgrades and reinstallations, especially having some ancient hardware which can be tricky to set up. For this, Manjaro is a viable option, assuming I can get the printer, KVM & scanner working.

Meanwhile I'll carry on using Mint on my Cinnamon & Xfce machines .. and I'm putting the LM17.3 KDE hard-disk in a reserve machine to deal with printing & scanning. :)
