Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
My suggestion is to include BleachBit by default. I have been using BleachBit in PCLinuxOS 2010 KDE and this tool has real value, it does an excellent job of keeping the system free of unwanted junk.
Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
Gloria had a more complete mobile broadband provider info package
Helena wasn't helpful at all in the above dept... I had to revert back to Gloria...
Remastersys is a good package to be included
also virtualbox... helps in a lot in distrotesting /tweaking,with out actually destroying your working distro...
acetoneCD+++ I carry most of my CDs as iso images on an ext harddrive...
vlc, lives, jokosher combo generally covers most routine audio/video tasks...openshot or vlc media creator will be welcome
Ghost theme has a fresh new look and is nice may be incl by default..
maybe no firefox plugin / safety blocks by default...
maybe incl nessus.
thanx for the excellent releases....

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
Hi boo...
Helena is for me the best KDE Distro around.
After messing with Kubuntu 10.04 Beta, one of the biggest problems is with Plymouth.
Particularly when using proprietary drivers, it looks awful on boot.
Don't look like this issue will be resolved for final release.
Will Mint stay with it or change?
I'd hate to see any Mint release look as poor as Ubuntu's at present!

A small request. Include kde-games on the DVD. Gives me something to fiddle around with during the installation process.

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
I started out with the Gnome version of Mint, and switched to KDE a few months ago and its the distro for me. I find it so much easier to use than Gnome (once I found my way around) and just a fresher version. I don't have any particular suggestions though do like the addition of a USB Creator of some sort.
Hopefully a darker them provided and perhaps a dark wallpaper.
Keep up the great work, looking forward to LM9 KDE!

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
I don't pidgin should be added, we have kopete which is better anyways...You can always download this yourself...
And I am dying for mint 9 kde
I am almost in tears at how bad my current kubuntu 10.04 install is. It added 10 seconds to my boot time and my optical drive does work. I am going back to mint 8 KDE 64 right now.

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
Carl, you have same laptop as me. (inspiron 1525 FTW)
Also, another widget that you might want to add the repos for would be fancy tasks. Its the best dock ever IMO.
Just to make sure I have this right, adding the repo just makes it available for download, I don't want the actual install to be bulky, thats the great thing about linux, a Light install and the ability to then quickly get what you need. I don't want to be un-installing a TON of apps.
Some things like ACEtone should be included as a pre installed app though.

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
Maybe not for Isadora but for Mint 10 KDE... Have you thought about porting Mint Menu to Qt-KDE? You know, like a plasmoid or something like that. I find it much better than Kickoff and Lancelot and it would make Mint KDE a special KDE distro, different from Kubuntu and others. Plus, Mint branding would be much better displayed in the KDE edition this way.
I know it's easier said than done, but still...

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
KDE is developed using QT. Don't know why everyone is asking for qt-KDE when it's already based using that development package.

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
Hi Boo,
Some things I am missing in the LM 9 KDE which I would like to add.
1. Hardware music control buttons (play/pause) do not work in any music player.
2. Is it possible to customize the system tray?
3. External device widget should only be visible when an external storage device is actually plugged in, not always.
4. Built in thumbnail views for common video files by default
5. VLC as the default media player
Thanks

1 [✔] Yes would love this on my Inspiron 1525vortexmak wrote:Hi Boo,

2 [✔] Hmmm in what way?
3 [✔] Yep I'd go with that
4 [✔] This really bugs me there should be thumbnails for the most common formats (AVI, MPG, MKV, etc)
5 [X] Nah I'd much prefer a native player although keep vlc in there =]

I thought VLC was a native player ... isn't it based on Qt ?Carl wrote: 5 [X] Nah I'd much prefer a native player although keep vlc in there =]

@5 Well yes it is Qt but I meant a player that uses the systems codecs such as MPlayer =]
Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
1. Hardware controls work just fine on my notebook. Must use Amarok for that, tho.vortexmak wrote:Hi Boo,

2. In what way? If you're talking about transparency, that's something the devs for KDE need to address.
3. See #2.
4. Meh.
5. Agreed.

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
A word of advice.. don't bother mentioning this to KDE devs. The answer is "Composting!"Biker wrote: 2. In what way? If you're talking about transparency, that's something the devs for KDE need to address.

BS! <insert deragtory term of your choice> segio has decided that the transparency that exists in KDE 3 is "fake" and not "worthy" of KDE 4.

http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=74965
So unless:
1) Your hardware supports composting
AND
2) Your THEME supports this as an option, its GONE!
So since I do not, and will not enable this, and I have current hardware that will allows its use, its a waste of resources..
This applies to transparency in Konsole too... URRGH!
More reasons why kde4.x is not getting any love from me.
Julep....mixing.....KDE Done right, and minty.

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
For the most part, my task bar IS transparent. However, the notification area is not, and this is what the devs at KDE need to address.

Right-click on the system tray, enter System Tray Settings, then in Auto Hide set your options.vortexmak wrote:The option to select which icons should be always hidden and always visible

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE
My suggestions: SMPlayer as default video player (it have very good subtitles support), Yakuake (the best solution for working in console), in installation add pam usb option with or without password, KNetworkManager is better solution than (GNOME) NetworkManager in every start a system I have ask password window (in Kickoff menu I haven't any application to remove password from Keyring).
