I still haven't seen a release date yet? Is it likely this month or next?

@ travelinrob:

The updates by Boo are found on the last page of this thread, and the latest was on Fri, 6-4-10.....need to reference that from time to time and see where they are...currently Clem is or has been testing the latest RC or ISO for RC over the weekend....I too am curious on whether RC will be released this week or not...cheers to all.

My guess is that if they are having problems getting mintwelcome and mintupdate working, it might be a while.

when Kmint9 is released, can I just add the packages for it to my existing LM9 installation? I would really like avoid re-installing.

Also, I have just learned that ubuntu 10.04 and all of it's derivatives, (yes this means Linux Mint 9), have this lovely error on many machines (I think its the kernel, idk though), that makes it so media that you put in you optical drive isn't mounted after you boot.

SO to get the media to appear, you need to reboot with it in the drive.

It sickens me to see such a horrific error has passed by first into Ubuntu, and now Linux Mint 9. It is unacceptable for an operating system to have such an error in it. I am not the only one with this problem, and this occurs on both my laptop and desktop (so my hardware is fine). If this isn't cleaned up soon, I am saying farewell to mint and installing the outdated openSUSE 11.2 (or maybe sorcerer).

I think this is a kernel problem, but I am unsure. Regardless, I have submitted bug reports about this, and now I am posting this problem here after recently installing linux mint. I am very sad as I have a feeling this will likely be the end of me using Linux Mint until 10 comes out...I really love everything about it, but this is simply something I need working. I hope this can be fixed.

yeah, there was the bug with gnome panels not appearing when you first create them until you re-logged in, a fair amount more bugs are appearing now and not always caught

3.0ghz dual core 4 gigs ram and a 8800GT

It ran slow...Like, windows 7 was faster than it...It was just terrible. and there is no GUI for their package manager.

I download unetbooting, and made a flash of LM9 and I have it up and running now on my desktop. So much faster than Fedora.

I am hoping to give openSUSE a go when it comes out though. I just hope it's not too slow for me.
I've also tried Fedora 13 x64 Kde, and was quite disappointed.
I'd already heard that Fedora was doing a pretty poor Kde implementation, and now I had to find that it was just all too true.
It's just a very plain implementation, without any work or effort spent on it, and it seriously needs some polish, not just because of several graphical flaws I found.
The opensource Radeon driver worked only poorly in Fedora, yet it works fine (with compositing!) in other new versions of current distros.
Connecting to the internet also proved very problematic, the way they had set up things.
I could be going on still, but won't waste the time to list it all.
All in all, the Kde implementation in Fedora is very poorly done. Don't waste your time with this if you're looking for a good Kde distro.

I just gave sabayon a go in a VM and I really really liked it. I am making a bootable flash right now and going to do a clean install with it.

Awesome, sabayon has the exact same problem. So that means this is a kernel issue...This is just wrong...I am thinking I will just go back to OSX 10.5.7

I thought Boo's intention was to open a topic for the Isadora KDE Development Progress Report. Now you start a offtopic banter about other distro's and OS's.

Please try to get back ontopic or post in here if ya wanna chat about other distro's. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=61
And here for your Os X stuff. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=58

I posted it here in addition to other places for a few reasons.
1. This error will be present in Kmint9 because it exists is Linux Mint 9 and I do not want to have to deal with this problem anymore.
2. No one answers my cries for help when I post it in the proper place. (on both the Linux Mint and Ubuntu forums).
3. My hope was that this issue would just be a Ubuntu/Mint issue, but it seems to be bigger than that so I am trying to bring attention to it.

I personally believe having working optical drives is part of the development progress. All updates are done on page 1 anyways, this in no way interferes with anything boo is doing.

Clem has finished testing. We just want to tweak a few theme issues.

Usplash has been replaced by plymouth.
Plymouth theme looks good.

Cheers

Mint 8 KDE is great. Cant wait to see mint 9. Hoping it would be better than mint 8. And why wouldn't be good, after all it has got hard work from the great mint team

Yeah, my only beef right now is with the optical drive. Other than that. I love everything about it. Linux Mint 8 was amazing though, will be difficult to top.

Well I am thinking it might be a codec issue now, it's only movies that I need to reboot to get to work...Unsure why this is. CD's and DVD's with just data on em work fine.
I reinstalled all the codecs from medibuntu just to make sure and that still didn't fix it. Everything else is flawless though. I can not wait to remove Gnome and put KDE back on... <3 KDE 4.4
