[SOLVED]no update possible

Post by fanchig »

hi everyone!!!
this message from france (sorry for my lame english...) 'cause i got a problem with my new Mint9kde:
i've just finished installing mint kde, everything seems fine;then the update manager tells me that there are about 450 updates available.
so i click on it,and it says: update impossible, please repair brocken packages;I open synaptic, looking for brocken packages, but synaptic can't find any!
please help

Try in Synaptic from menu:
Edit --- Fix broken packages

It might help. If still not, try then reboot yet.

BTW do you have a french or english interface of your LM?

Or try this user tip: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=59985

Can you write the output of this? run in terminal

sudo apt-get -f install

Then you can try yet to run in terminal this (after each line enter key)

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Hey!

I guess you have the sofware source "http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu lucid main" enabled, right? In this case the update manager refuses to update because of broken packages. Then you have to update via terminal. With:

sudo apt-get upgrade -f -y
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f -y

and repeat those two until there is nothing to update left.

After finishing updating your system that way I recommend you to install linux-headers-generic then (on my system x-server wont work without - so no graphical user interface)

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic

and then reboot your system and enjoy Mint with KDE4.5.3
