network manager stops working after failed suspend - solved

Post by dungbeetle »

Hi Guys, I have been running mint 9 kde since it was first released, with no problems until last night. I closed the lid as usual to put it into suspend, and noticed that the fans started racing and it failed to suspend. I had to do a hard reset to shut it down.

I booted this morning and there is no functioning network manager. No wlan0 and no wired connection using eth0. I tried removing network manager and re installing it but that did not help.

I cannot even get a connection using the wired network. I tried to bring up eth0 following this suggestion:

http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.ph ... =0#p169158

but dhcpcd is not installed and I do not see how I can install it easily with no connection.

Any ideas? I am currently posting from my install of lmde in another partition of the same machine, which is a sony vaio vgn-fw31e. I am happy to use the terminal to get online if anyone has any suggestions, and I can get to config files from this install if any need removing manually, and then maybe install wicd instead.

OK, well I fixed the problem by running the live cd, installing wicd and copying the five .deb files to /var/cache/apt/archives in my broken install. Then used aptitude to install wicd, and now all is rosy. Good riddance to network-manager......

I'm having a similar problem. Has anyone else managed to get a solution other than installing wicd via the live cd?
