HOWTO: XSWAT PPA Drivers

Post by rec9140 » Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:30 am

Theres been a lot of discussion on using the updated OEM drivers provided by the XSWAT PPA.

In an effort to make this available to a wider audience this will be a HOWTO for each type of card:

nVidia:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

ati

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
 sudo apt-get update
 sudo apt-get install fglrx
ADDED: ati 1033USET/ 02-22-11

intel

need submission

Any one who has the steps for non nVidia please let me know via PM and I will edit it into the post. I don't have or use these.

xpto ~ $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates

[sudo] password for xpto:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/add-apt-repository", line 65, in <module>
if not sp.add_source_from_line(line):
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/softwareproperties/SoftwareProperties.py", line 630, in add_source_from_line

Aren't you using LMDE, lmx? This is for Ubuntu-based distros and may not be compatible with Debian.

Debian does not use PPA's like Ubuntu does.

If you want to install a newer graphics driver version on LMDE, please ask that in the LMDE forum.

This thread was started in Feb. when Linux Mint 10 was new.. It will no longer apply to Mint KDE since it will be going to the Debian base..

Drivers will be available from the Debian repo's..
