A couple of questions regarding KDE

Post by JordanV0712 »

So I have been having problems with GNOME and Unity lately and I would like to check out the KDE aspect of the Linux world. Currently, I have only tried KDE in the past (4.4...?) and on someone else's computer. From what I remember, certain things such as DropBox don't work in KDE... Is there any way to get them to work in KDE? Also, is there a way to get Ubuntu One on Linux Mint KDE edition? I want it the same way as it is in Ubuntu, integrated into the panel.

As for dropbox, there is a similar application called Kfilebox, I use it regularly without problems:

Instead, for ubuntuone, you can take a look here:

I have not personally used, but no harm trying it :D

good luck

ok about the Dropbox but what about Ubuntu One? I actually do use the service too.

And on a sidenote, does installing applications on KDE Linux Mint install the GTK versions of the apps? Since it is based off of Ubuntu which is largely GTK based?

Ok... it says on the website to download the version for 10.04. i don't think I have to mention the fact of how outdated that is compared to what we have now... So what do I do?

It wouldn't hurt to try installing the 10.04 version... it'll either install and work or it won't install and you can just delete the file. I went to http://sourceforge.net/projects/kdropbo ... box-0.4.8/ and saw that this version is brand new... worth a try. If not, you could just get the source file and compile it yourself. It's not as hard as it sounds. Happy to help if you decide to try that and can't figure it out.

Ok,
kfilebox-0.4.8 is the version i am currently using on Lisa KDE, no problems at all with it.

As for ubuntuone i had it on Julia KDE but now the apachelogger repository seems to be down :(
I don't know why but there's no way to make the gtk version start on KDE....i would need it too, so if someone knows how to make it work, he would be blessed by many of Mint users

I don't know where people got the idea that dropbox doesn't work with kde.
All you have to do is download and install it. I use it all the time. 8)

Nobody said Dropbox doesn't work with KDE, it works smooth on my desktop

Anyway, for Ubuntuone, i just tried what suggested on this page:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1719416

It's related to 11.04 but working on 11.10 and obviously on Lisa KDE.
A gtk version though
