Warning Vampire Zombie Synaptic Package Mgr.

Post by zero-sum »

Mint ver. 12 KDE. It all started when I innocently tried to down load the latest msttcorefonts via synaptic. It never completed. I ended up looking at an EULA screen that I could not kill. Even xkill (skull and crossbones) won't kill this sucker. It just keeps coming back for more. Tried to do a

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge synaptic
First, a message comes back that I need to run -

Code: Select all

dpkg --configure -a
and when I do, back comes the EULA screen

I did eventually erase the fonts I didn't want and installed the fonts I did want. Now if I can only get the synaptic thing permanently killed, erased, reinstalled or whatever.

Any ideas most welcome. In the mean time, if you are running KDE ver. 12, I would strongly advise avoiding trying to download the MS fonts via Synaptic.

All you have to do is hit Tab and you can then accept or reject. It will then go away..

Finally discovered the "tab key" trick. I might also add the coding for reinstalling programs which is a little unusual

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude reinstall packagename
or

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall packagename
I used the latter quite a bit putting things back together. At this point I'm going to try very hard to keep things professional and not issue comments about how I really feel about Micrsoft and their wonderful EULA's

Thanks to all --
