How are workspace icons configured?

Post by boofyjuice »

Hi all,

Most of my applications have icons that show up in the workspace switcher, which is useful to know which applications are in which workspace.

However, some applications' icons aren't showing up, even when they display correctly elsewhere. Instead there is a generic "application window icon" like in the rightmost panel here:

That's not what I want. Where can I configure the icons for the different workspaces?

Thanks in advance

Simply open the app on a different workspace (the one you want) or move it to the workspace you want after opening it... As for what the application icon looks like, that determined by the application in concert with your theme icons.

Edit: you might consider reading the xfce4 workspace docs for details: https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/pager

The application I'm using has an icon in /usr/share/pixmaps and when I search for it in the start menu, it correctly displays. When I minimize to the taskbar it correctly displays on the taskbar. So the taskbar and start menu know where to look for that icon.

The workspace switcher, however, does not. I don't know why this is the case, but I suspect it can be fixed with a line in a config file somewhere. That's what I'm looking for.
