Salineos-backup creates an installable file that can be bigger than the 4 GB maximum that remastersys supports

I only run the standard Linux video drivers and have no problems, if you are reinstalling your backup to a different machine it might be wise to disable any proprietary video drivers you have installed.

You also need to break any symbolic links you might have in your home folder.
I also stop Dropbox from auto starting.

You can't install the backup into the OS that is running
so you must have another OS with Salineos backup installed or a live DVD with salineos-backup installed.

Download salineos-backup and unzip http://lin.me.uk/mint/salineos-backup/s ... backup.tar
Install Yad 32 bit or 64 bit with gdebi
Run the copy-files script
You should now have an option Menu/System/Salineos Backup

I haven't tried it on LMDE Gnome but see no reason why it shouldn't work.

So, am I correct in stating that to successfully restore a backup from salineos-backup, you need to boot a live disc (presumably on the computer you're trying to restore) and run salineos-backup from within that live distro to properly re-image the hard drive with the backup file previously created?

I LOVE remastersys, but for larger systems (my webserver comes to mind) this would be great, even if it doesn't live-boot on its own.

I too fell in love with Remastersys but a similar app I've been using is Refracta snapshot/installer by jsmithred which runs on Stable and Wheezy but I've never tried it on Sid.

One difference is that when you run a live Refracta DVD/snapshot and make changes, add apps etc,
those changes you make are also incorporated in any install you then make.

Download and unzip the debs from refracta debs
Install the debs from top down in thunar using gdebi

To make an installable snapshot ISO of your system.
Disconect any symbolic links in your home folder, I also stop dropbox auto starting
If you intend to install with a different user name then stop autologin.
