<SOLVED> Krita and XFCE

Post by Epicfeil » Wed Aug 07, 2013 11:49 am

Hello, i have mint 15 xfce and i was used to krita in kubuntu. Now i know krita is "developed" under kde and i would also like to know if all the kde packages i am going to install are going to be a problem. I am afraid about speed and stability. It may be a newbie question i know

It doesn't look like many problems would be there, though certainly when you run Krita it will need to load all these KDE libraries. If this is the only application using those libraries on your system, your other applications are thus using other libraries... Meaning Krita will require more memory to run, because all these libraries need to be loaded into memory specifically for Krita. For example if you ran it on KDE, chance would give that many of these libraries would already be in memory for other KDE applications. So if you it using a bit more memory than on KDE isn't an issue, Krita will probably work fine on Xfce.

But I yield the floor to anybody more knowledgeable about specific KDE components installed here (like phonon and nepomuk-core).

Yep Krita and other kde apps (e.g. dolphin) work fine on xfce / mate/ cinnamon etc ...

They will take up a little more space on your hard disk and load a little more slowly than native gtk apps but nothing that will give you problems.
Same is true for running gtk apps in kde.

If you run kde apps a lot you might want to have xfce load some kde stuff at boot via settings manager > sessions and startup > advanced > load kde services at startup
