How do I make turn on compiz and keep my window management?

Post by ossified65 » Fri Oct 17, 2008 3:29 pm

I want to use cairo-dock, but everytime I turn on compiz it changes my windows manager and I loose all my buttons (open, close, minimize). How do I keep the default manager and still have compiz on?

cairo-dock is for compiz
I think you don't mean it changes window manager, but rather that you loose window decorations
This used to be a common problem with Beryl, but I thought it was gone with compiz more or less
This can vary with themes and the Emerald theme manager (not installed) could possibly help you
I have a bunch of solutions for Beryl but none for Compiz as far as I recall

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

did you try using compiz fusion icon.

Code: Select all

apt-get install fusion-icon
when installed go to system=>compiz fusion icon
it will pop-up on the panel. right-click it and select your desired window manager

hope this helps

NB: if you like it you can add it amongst your start-up programs
