Remote Desktop Remmina/VNC not working for main computer

Post by minty_22 »

Hello, I am having problems with my main desktop using vnc remote desktop

I have 3 desktops,

2 of them are plugged in directly into a switch which connects to the modem,
i clicked on desktop sharing and "allow other users to view desktop" and set up a password,
that's all i had to do, and then from another computer i click on remmina, and i put in the ip address and it pops up asking me the password, and i input and it works!
both computers work great!

But my other desktop, which is connected to a router and then connects to the switch and then the switch connects to the modem,
this one isn't working,
I clicked on desktop sharing, allow users to view desktop and set up a password,

i go to another different desktop and input the ip and password, but it stays on Connecting to xxx.xxx.xx.xx (ip)
it never connects and eventually it says unable to connect to vnc server

I have no idea, what the problem is with my main desktop, the other 2 desktops work fine but not my desktop
i can't seem to figure whats wrong, i have port 5900 open on my router

all desktops are using xfce
how can i check if i am missing something on my desktop,

hello,

it seems i have found a solution,

if i run this command in the terminal, then i am able to connect:

/usr/lib/vino/vin-server

in my other desktops, i don't have to put any command in the terminal, i automatically works
why do i have to put that in the terminal each time, for my main desktop
if i close the terminal, it stops working and i am unable to connect

any idea why?

figured it out!

click on the start menu
search session and startup and click it
click on autostart tab
scroll down until you find "Remmina Applet(Connect to remote desktops through the applet menu) <--- enable this by clicking in the square box
then close session and startup
log out, log in

that it!

now i don't have to manually put in that command, not sure why it works now, i think its because the vn server is set to automatically start,
but now when i enable sharing, the icon in the taskbar appears, it didn't before
if i disable it, the icon goes away,

works now! hopefully this helps someone in the future,

thanks!
