Mint-y theme and icons

Post by fblais »

Hi.
Using Mint-Y GTK and icon themes.
A few panel icons (sound and wifi indicators) are black on the black panel.
Do we need a Mint-Y light or dark icon set?

Thanks!

Same thing under MATE by the way, not unique to XFCE panel.

Do you use an integrated Intel video device?

The icons it's using are inherited from Mint-X which has the same issue. This is something that is going to be addressed for Mint19.
When I give opinions, they are my own. Not necessarily those of any other Linux Mint developer or the Linux Mint project as a whole.

One solution is to manually replace the default icons with more colorful custom ones, as seen in this picture. The Mint-Y theme is used in the middle and right panels.

Check the info in my last post in this topic, under Update: Mint 18.3 Xfce Applications Menu Editing:
under the sections Changing the network and sound icons in the panel’s system tray area: and
UPDATE: Replacing the wireless network icon:

This issue has bugged me since the release of Mint 18 xfce, as I prefer the more modern looking Mint-Y theme.
My solution was to use Mint-Y as the style, then to install the Vibrancy Icon theme using this ppa:
http://www.ravefinity.com/p/vibrancy-co ... theme.html
Then set the icons to Vibrancy-Dark-Green.
Ignore the warning that Vibrancy doesn't work on Mint 18. That's just for Cinnamon. It works perfectly well in XFCE.
As has been mentioned, I hope this is addressed in Mint 19.

Thanks for the feedback.
As for myself, I simply switched to a completely different GTK theme, and use the Papirus icon theme, which I like very much.
I really like the Mint-Y icon theme but the drawbacks are the toolbar icons color, and the fact it's still only available in green.

That's one of the reasons I suggested the Vibrancy theme. It's very similar to Mint-Y, in fact I think Mint-Y is based on it to a degree. The Toolbar Icons render perfectly, & it's available in many different colours.

Now using the Vibrancy-Dark-Green-Viva icon theme with Mint-Y GTK theme, and they blend perfectly, thanks!

also, for Mate,
it would be nice to have a Mint-Y-Dark-Aqua/Blue/... themes, similar to the more popular Mint-X-(Color) Themes.
Although, customizing the existing mint-y-dark can get fairly close to what I want, but still, I'm not a fan of the mint-y-flat/squared icons.

Or use XFCE-D-PRO.1.6 theme.
It's perfect.
