SOLVED-sort of-Xfce Sloooow Shutdown

Post by Reddog1 » Thu Mar 15, 2018 9:34 pm

This is a weird one, and I believe that it is Xfce related. I've installed Mint 18.3 on an Acer Aspire 3 and if I choose, from the taskbar menu, the 'Logout' button, and then choose the 'Shutdown' option, the laptop takes over a minute to actually power off (I can spend the time watching the Mint Logo and the dots winking or I can walk away). If, instead of choosing 'Shutdown', I choose 'Logout', within 3 seconds I see the login screen. Then I choose the button in the upper right corner and from that dropdown menu choose 'Quit' and a menu immediately pops up from which I choose 'Shutdown' and the laptop powers down immediately. The whole process takes under 10 seconds. Is this a bug??

O.K. This problem appears to have disappeared sometime during the past week. I suspect that an update of something, (I don't know what) was the fix for this particular problem. Anyway, a hit on the 'shutdown' button turns the laptop off in about 3 seconds, now.

I have that same issue. Installed Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon on an Acer Aspire E5-575, Intel Core-i5, integrated graphics laptop. Everything seems to work fine except the boot time and shutdown time are unusually long.
Hadn't thought of trying the Logout then Shutdown scheme. I'll give that a try.
Have an Intel Microcode update to install - perhaps that will help.
