my two year old somehow got rid of the start menu!
You know, the big thing that pops up when you hit the windows button on your keyboard. I dont know what the kid did, but that menu where all my programs and settings are is 86ed. How to get it back?

Is this Mint 18.3?
try this--open a terminal by Ctrl+Alt+T
then copy/paste the following:
That should reset your panel and allow Menu

Yes, 18.3, no didn't work. Is that thing called the "launcher"? I could look in my desktop settings?

Thanks. I think it's called the whiskermenu.

Does it launch like this?

Hi throatgorge,
I hope this can help:
Right-click on an empty space on the panel and from the pop-up choose "Add New Items". Scroll down the window until "Whisker Menu", mark it and click "Add". It will be added to the right end of your panel. If you want to change its location, just right-click on it and choose "move" and while holding down the mouse button move it to where you want on the panel.

Yep. Marziano probably has the correct solution.
The newley created whisker menu icon will be blue---different from what you are used to seeing.
No problem though--just right click on the blue icon and select 'Properties'. In the window that opens click on the blue icon, a new window opens, just scroll up to find the icon you are used to seeing and click on that one.

SOLVED : Re: my two year old somehow got rid of the start menu!
Yeah, my wife just figured it out... Marziano suggested it, I'd have tried it. But my wife figured it out first. I helped... "choose the one that says whiskermenu" said I.

Is it too soon to enroll the kid in computer classes. Seems like the little one is already demonstrating an aptitude for it.

Request for clarification: Did the menu disappear from your panel in addition to no longer opening when you press your Windows/Linux/Super key?
When I was four years old, I opened the safe in a SuperX drug store. Mom saw me screwing with it, and told me to get away from there, but the clerk laughed and said I couldn't hurt anything. Kids... Potentially the most powerful - and destructive - force in the universe, lol, because they haven't been told for decades that things just aren't possible to DO, yet.
Regards,
MDM
