Indicator popup panel size

Hi all,

could someone tell, what determines the size or in this case the height of that xfce4-indicator-plugin popup panels? I'm not even sure, it this is the right term for this, but see what I mean:

I'm quite sure, some time ago this sound indicator panel had no borders and was completely visible.
