Move to and Copy to on xfce4 desktop

Post by marcia »

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday I installed linuxmint 18.3 xfce after using linuxmint cinnamon 17.3 for some years. One thing that seems to be missing is the copy to and move to feature. In 17.3 I was able to right click on a file or folder on the desktop and choose to copy to or move to a specific folder that I could choose. Now when I right click on a file or folder there is cut , copy, move to trash but no move to or copy to option. Is there a way to add this option? I used it often and really miss it.

So far I am really liking 18.3 xfce. I will be checking how everything is working the next few days.

When you right click on a file and the selections drop down, look at the top right corner and you should see a +. Click on it and the other options will appear.
Good luck.

Is that some new feature in the 18.x series of Mint Xfce? Because there's nothing like that on the desktop in Mint Xfce 17.3.

Hello,

Thank you for your prompt answer. I vaguely remember this solution some years ago. I have been checking for a + sign and there is
none that I can find. Maybe I am not searching in the right place.

I hope there is an easy fix.

Thanks for the help.

Greetings!

Afaict, your "easy fix" is discussed in a post @ http://pclosmag.com/html/Issues/201308/page02.html (scroll down a bit). I just found that post thus I have not yet created these 2 custom actions you are looking for, but will test them for myself soon. I'm sure it will come in handy since I do a lot of file maintenance myself.

The solution offered but that post uses the "zenity" tool for constructing the commands' GUI. I have both zenity & YAD installed on my systems, but can't remember if one or both tools came with Mint's install disk, or if i installed it myself after minting my 3 systems (2 fresh 64-bit desktop builds and one laptop upgrade from a 32-bit LM18.0-xfce).

Had to reboot for it to take effect.

Now, I am very pleased with linuxmint18.3 xfce.
