[SOLVED] XFCE4 Desktop disappeared

Post by linux-dummie »

FYI for anyone who might be searching for an answer like I was. On Mint 18.2 32-bit XFCE on a intel quad 2, was downloading a large udemy.com class when my pc froze up completely (still don't know why). On reboot, my desktop icons, background, and right-click-on-desktop were all gone, just a black screen. Panel was visible, Menu worked and I could run apps from there. I tried deleting (actually renaming) a bunch of .config files related to xfwm and xfce, but none of that worked. Looked for hints online, and found this thread:

http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?pid=21023

The suggestion of deleting ~/.cache/sessions worked for me. (Of course, I deleted that folder while logged out.) All returned to normal.
