xfce choppy window dragging when playing videos

Post by yunhblay »

Hey i'm using xfce with xfwm+compositing as the window manager and dragging is really smooth unless i play a video or game (really anything that uses opengl)
than it becomes really really choppy and laggy, example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCDV6le ... e=youtu.be

Something to try . .
In the Window Manager Tweaks program, go to the Compositor tab, and check to see if 1) Display overlay windows directly, and 2) Synchronize to vertical blank, are checked.

Synchronize to vertical blank was off but turning it on only makes the problem worse

Okay, now try going the other way. Start unchecking those checkboxes one at a time to see if things improve (even the shadow stuff too).
Until finally you un-ckeck the "Enable display compositing" checkbox. To see if compositing itself is the root cause.

seems like the compositor is the problem
but without it there's tearing everywhere

Use this command in the Terminal program and copy the complete output. Paste it back here in a reply. (when you reply, please paste that output between the Code tags, you will see the </> button above the reply window)

This will show general information about your hardware and system; which will help us to see if anything else may be causing the problem.
