[SOLVED] Panel Preferences

Post by JerryF » Mon Oct 01, 2018 6:54 pm

Hello all,

In the panel, I've been trying to change the shade of the app that has the focus (active app). As of right now, the app that has the focus is a darker grey than the app(s) that don't have the focus.

Example:
Shutter_011.jpg
Click to enlarge
This snapshot shows two apps open. Calculator and File Manager. Calculator was the active window, File Manager the inactive window.

I'd like to switch it so that the active app has the lighter grey and the inactive app(s) have the darker grey.

Is there a way to change this in Xfce? I don't find it intuitive to have the active app having the darker grey than the inactive app(s).

Specs:

Greetings!

Before suggesting a workaround, what appearance-"theme" are you using? There are 2 settings to check: Menu > Settings > Appearance > "Style" tab; and Menu > Settings > Window Manager > "Style" tab. Thanks for checking.

Cheers, m4a

Thanks for your reply.

Menu > Settings > Appearance > "Style" = Mint-X-Orange

Thanks for the update.

I've reproduced your problem -- observation, actually -- and started tracking down just WHERE in the Mint-X-Orange theme the tweak must be placed. Just to make sure what you're after, here's a screenshot of what my window-list looks like...

Image

Obviously, i'm using a coco-like base color instead of your theme's orange-like color setting. But as you can see, my theme's setting highlights the background of the task-bar's window-list button of the window that has focus, and inverts the title's color (from bright to dark). Is that the effect you'd like to see?

Cheers, m4a

Dear All,

this is what I did to customize parts of my panel under Mint Mate 18.3 with Mint-X-Aqua. I have created the following file in my home directory "~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css"

Code: Select all

@define-color  custom_fg_color #eee;
@define-color  custom_rv_color #111;
@define-color  custom_bg_color #599dde;
@define-color  custom_bd_color #67b4ff;

/* --------------------------------------------------------------- Task List */

#PanelApplet WnckTasklist .button.flat {
    border-width: 1px;
    border-radius: 1px;
    border-color: @custom_bg_color;
    color: @custom_fg_color;
    background-color: @theme_fg_color;
    box-shadow: none;
    background-image: none;
}

#PanelApplet WnckTasklist .button.flat:hover {
    border-width: 1px;
    border-radius: 1px;
    border-color: @custom_bd_color;
    color: @custom_fg_color;
    background-color: @custom_bg_color;
    box-shadow: none;
    background-image: linear-gradient(to top,
                                      alpha(black, 0.4),
                                      alpha(black, 0.4));
}

#PanelApplet WnckTasklist .button.flat:checked:hover,
#PanelApplet WnckTasklist .button.flat:checked,
#PanelApplet WnckTasklist .button.flat:active:hover,
#PanelApplet WnckTasklist .button.flat:active {
    border-width: 1px;
    border-radius: 1px;
    border-color: @custom_bd_color;
    color: @custom_rv_color;
    background-color: @custom_bg_color;
    box-shadow: none;
    background-image: none;
}

/* ------------------------------------------------------ Workspace Switcher */

.wnck-pager {
    background-color: shade(@custom_bg_color, 0.45);
}

.wnck-pager:selected {
    background-color: shade(@custom_bg_color, 0.75);
}

.wnck-pager:hover {
    background-color: shade(@custom_bg_color, 0.6);
}
This code gives me the following look:
ScreenshotPanelPreference.png
  • The window that has the focus is shown in bright blue in the middle.
  • Windows that do not have the focus are shown in dark with a blue border (see the one on the right).
  • Windows that are hovered by the mouse pointer are shown with medium blue color and a bright blue border (on the left).
As you can see, I also modified the workspace switcher colors in order to match my background color (which involved a lot of iterations :( )

Regards
Tom

Thank you all!

I ended up using a whole new theme.

Not my favorite, but it does the job.

Thanks for the update -- if that theme-change works ok for you, so much the better :) ... However, i am in the middle of tracking down those tweaks as i have observed that the numerous tweaks i've made to create my own theme-of-choice has a lot of problems on LM19 & Xubuntu 18.04.1. Worse, it is practically unusable on Xubuntu 18.10beta (GTK3+-based). So i got some work to do anyway.

@ tom739 ... Thanks for sharing your .css tweaks -- they look great, and if my coco-colored theme (it is entirely based on GTK2+) is too difficult to convert to GTK3+ i'll try out your Mint-X-Aqua version + tweaks.

Cheers, m4a
