After I close the lid and wait about half a minute then open the lid, session is locked and login prompt is presented. After I login, the display goes blank / off.
If I then close and reopen the lid, the display comes back and all is normal. I have not yet found any other way to get the display back on. I would prefer not to have to close and reopen the lid to recover from the blank screen.
If I close the lid and reopen before the session is locked, then there is no login prompt and the display comes back on and all is normal. So the issue seems to relate to the session lock somehow.
If I don't close the lid, the session locks, after which I can login and all is normal. The problem only occurs when the session is locked while the lid is closed.
Power Manager settings have:
* When laptop lid is closed: Switch off display
* System sleep mode: Suspend
* Blank after: 2 minutes
* Put to sleep after: 3 minutes
* Switch off after: never
* Automatically lock the session: When the screensaver is activated
* Delay locking after screensaver for: 25
Based on the time until the session is locked after closing the lid, I assume the closing the lid effectively activated the screensaver immediately so that the session is locked 25 seconds after closing the lid. It isn't obvious to me that the system goes to sleep after 3 minutes. It goes quiet (fan stops) after about the same time the session is locked and it doesn't make any difference if I open the lid immediate after this or hours later. Regardless the delay, when I open the lid the login screen appears promptly (sub-second until the display lights up) but the display goes blank after logging in.
When the screen is blank, I can switch to a console which works normally but when I switch back to the desktop the display blanks again.
